The Elections Project has been touring Gauteng and The Free State. We have been visiting stations and meeting the accomplished community reporters who are producing the on-the-ground journalism that defines what we do.
We stopped at The Rock FM in Welkom in the Free State. The station is underground: you follow a spiral metal staircase into a passage (with a poster for Citizen Justice Network on your right) and then you walk into an expansive room with couches for you to sit on and chat.
We talked at length with the animated Ike Mosia, the Producer and Presenter of the current affairs show. He has been working on stories where politicians and gangsterism intersect. He is going to explore this further for our project.
From The Rock we went to Ficksburg, which is about two hours South-East. The town is on the border with the north of Lesotho.
It had been raining on and off for almost 24 hours in Ficksburg when we arrived. The town felt like it was getting flooded. Liau Ramaisa, the Producer and Presenter of the current affairs show was soaking wet. He is fascinated with how politicians move from one party to another (one person in particular went from ANC to independent and now back to the ANC) and he is going to explore that for our project.
In Gauteng we visited Jozi FM and Thetha FM, two powerhouse stations that are dedicated to producing great content.
We are proud to have all four of these stations from Gauteng and the Free State joining our election project. They will each produce a 25-minute package on their investigations.
