We are proud and excited to introduce you to our team of citizen reporters (based in community radio stations) from KZN that will be working on our election based stories for their stations.

We will be helping them with the reporting, editing and producing of these stories.

We have encouraged them to each track a single story between now and the 2019 South African Elections in an attempt to dig deeper into important investigations for their communities.

We will then help them each produce a 30 minute documentary that tracks the intricacies of their investigation. These will be played on their stations and distributed as a podcast online and over WhatsApp.

It is a collaborative, important strategy to improve the quality of journalism in community media.

Now, let’s meet the people…

Vuyo Bulala, News Editor at Ugu Youth Radio FM
Nonduduzo Nomvalo, News Editor at Inanda FM
Mbongeni Khumalo, Reporter at Izwi LoMzansi FM
Portia Mbambo, News Editor at Highway Radio FM
Skhumbuzo Nzuza, Field Reporter at Inanda FM
Lungi Gumede, News Editor at Umgungundlovu Community Radio
Ntandoyenkosi Dlamini, Reporter at Umgungundlovu FM
Tracey Ndaba, Field Reporter and News Anchor at Imbokodo FM
Mbongeni Sibiya, News Editor at Imbokodo FM

We will be tracking the progress of these nine brilliant individuals.

And in upcoming blog posts we will be featuring reporters working on this project from elsewhere around the country.

Each reporter was given a H1n Zoom recorder to help them with their reporting…

They are competing with each other for an extra equipment prize for their newsrooms that will be awarded at the end of the project
